Stacey Camacho's Interview with Michelle Kast

Yesterday, I had the opportunity to do a photo shoot with the lovely, beautiful, down to earth, fabulous, Michelle Kast. Michelle is a YouTube Beauty/Budget Vlogger. Having over 60,000 viewers who have viewed her page and watch her videos to listen to Michelle's beauty tips, as well as nearly 1,000 subscribers, which might I add is growing, just so they do not miss a single video.
Last week, I had the pleasure of interviewing Michelle and this is what she had to say:

Question #1: Tell me what made you decide to make beauty videos?
Well, I started my beauty blog first when I felt like I was being asked the same questions over and over by friends and family – sometimes even strangers. The common theme was always ‘How can I do this perfectly…for cheap”. I felt like there just weren’t enough true budget beauty advice out there. The “budget” sections in magazines were for products under $100… what about those of us who need them under $10? What about under $5? So it all sprang from there and it slowly branched off into videos.

Question #2: Out of all the beauty products you have tried, what is the one product you believe you will be using for the rest of your life?
It has to be Ponds Cold Cream. It is such a cheap, simple product that honestly gives me everything that I could ask for in a moisturizer, no matter the season. It’s one of those products that has been around for ages and your Grandmother probably used. It costs about $6 a tub and lasts for half the year, maybe more. It has a clean smell and short product list and zero bells and whistles.

Question #3: What beauty product(s) makes you feel fabulous?
A really kick ass mascara, like L’Oreal Voluminous. I could be totally makeup free and put on a coat or two of that and feel suddenly put together. A natural looking highlighter is always a great mood lifter too… get a creamy formula in the right tint for your skin and use just the tiniest bit on all those highlight areas – cheekbones, bridge of your nose, cupids bow, brow bone, inner corners of your eyes – and it’s like a 30 second face lift.

Question #4: What is your morning beauty routine like?
My makeup itself can (and does) change daily, but there are certain things that I do no matter what. I wash my face quickly to get off any sweat or oil from my sleep and apply a thin layer of moisturizer to my face/neck, and a bit of Vaseline to my lips. I apply my makeup for the day minus any lip products, seal it all with a translucent powder and then eat breakfast. Lip products come last before I walk out the door – don’t want to ruin it when I eat my breakfast!
Question #5: What is your favorite hair product?
I’m anti-hair products for the most part; my hair is very long and heavy and anything that I add to it just takes away from possible volume and forces me to wash my hair more often then I already do. One thing that I do use religiously though is Moroccan Oil Shampoo + Conditioner. I have been using it for years and I don’t see myself switching unless I have to. It smells so good and makes you feel like you just came from the salon without paying the prices that they sell their products for. I have these huge industrial sized jugs of it at home, I just can’t get enough.

Question #6: What are your four tips for fresh looking skin?
Cleanse often, exfoliate, moisturize, and drink enough water. Living in a big city specifically, my skin can see a lot of pollution and dust in one day on top of things like makeup, oil and sweat. Even though we might not see it, it impacts our skin in a big way! Using a creamy cleanser in the morning and night is a savior, and exfoliating daily also help my skin stay fresh and prevent it from looking dull or uneven. One of the biggest complaints of older women is that their skin doesn’t have the plump fullness of their youth… using a good moisturizer for your skin and staying hydrated is your number one ‘magic’ tool to fight against that – at any age.

Question #7: Do you have any beauty tips or techniques you would like to share?
Find your signature style – and then play with it as much as you can. Learn the flattering and unflattering things that you can do for yourself, know your bone structure and your coloring. Once you have a good idea on what colors, shapes and things make you look and feel your best – have fun varying up all the things that you CAN do.

Oh, and don’t be afraid of bright lipstick. It’s life changing.

Thank you, Michelle!
